How to Read Between the Lines of Mechanic Reviews

Look for Specifics, Not Just Sentiment

A review saying "great service, highly recommend" tells you almost nothing verifiable. A review mentioning a specific repair, a specific price, or a specific interaction ("explained why my brake pads weren't actually due yet") tells you much more about how the workshop actually operates.

Watch for Patterns, Not Outliers

A single negative review among many positive ones is normal — no business pleases everyone. A recurring specific complaint (consistently vague quotes, consistently pushy upselling) across multiple reviews is a more meaningful pattern worth taking seriously.

Check How the Business Responds

How a workshop responds to a negative review — defensively, dismissively, or with a genuine attempt to address the concern — tells you something about how they'd likely handle a problem with your own car.

Consider the Volume and Recency

A handful of five-star reviews from years ago tells you less than a steady, recent stream of detailed reviews — recency matters, since a workshop's standards can change over time (in either direction).
