Red dashboard symbols mean something needs attention right now, not "when convenient." The main brake warning light (an exclamation mark inside a circle, sometimes with "BRAKE") means a brake system fault or low fluid. A red oil can symbol means dangerously low oil pressure — continuing to drive risks serious engine damage within minutes. A red battery/electrical symbol means the charging system has failed, and a red temperature symbol means the engine is overheating. For any red symbol, the safest move is to pull over as soon as it's safe to do so.
Yellow or Orange Symbols: Get It Checked Soon
Yellow and orange symbols indicate something needs attention, but usually not an immediate roadside stop. A tyre pressure warning (a horseshoe shape with an exclamation mark) means one or more tyres are under-inflated. An ABS warning means the anti-lock braking system has a fault, though normal braking usually still works.
Blue or Green Symbols: Informational
Blue and green symbols are generally just status indicators, not warnings — high-beam headlights (blue), turn signals (green arrows), and cruise control status. These don't need any action beyond what you're already doing.
The colour system is intentional: Red means stop now, yellow/orange means book it in soon, blue/green is just information.
